Dick DeVos is the son of Richard DeVos, a highly acclaimed businessman himself who co-founded Amway Corporation and bought the NBA’s Orlando Magic about 25 years ago. Dick learned a lot about business and philanthropy from his father who gave quite a bit to the community, and also was a longtime friend of former President Gerald R. Ford.

Amway Corporation is a multilevel marketing company that not only sells consumer household and health products, but also lets customers resell them to others. Aside from serving at Amway and now The Windquest Group, Dick DeVos has made an impact on the Grand Rapids Community through Grand Action Committee and the state Board of Education.

As a member of Grand Action Committee, Dick has helped launch new building projects in Grand Rapids that have included sports arenas, museums, hotels, theaters and other projects to spur business growth. As part of the Board of Education, he’s helped private and charter schools thrive by advocating school of choice legislation and other benefits for these schools.

Dick DeVos and his wife Betsy have also led efforts to help private schools through scholarship programs through their family foundation, and have also supported organizations like the American Education Reform Council, and Children First America.

The DeVos’s later founded their own charter school, the West Michigan Aviation Academy where young people learn about aircraft and piloting as well as general education. Dick DeVos ran for governor in 2006 against Jennifer Granholm, but narrowly lost that race. He continues to support Republican candidates, and in 2012 helped lobby a right-to-work law through an effort supported by Mackinac Center for Public Policy.
