Susan McGalla on Women Rising in the Workplace

Workplaces are not always created equal, and that is especially true on the topic of gender-equality. Women have often had to fight to have access to any high position. This has been fought for years, and is still fought today. But some women are proof that the ability is there and they are helping others to reach for the stars.

Susan McGalla, a woman who stepped into a male-driven company, proved that a woman can stand tall and even become president of American Eagle Outfitters. She was raised by parents who wanted to teach their daughter that no matter your gender that you can work for what you wanted and achieve it. Susan took that attitude and applied it to her career, getting a degree in Business Marketing and joining American Eagle, who allowed her to excel to the top. Following there, she moved on to founding Executive Consulting and becoming the Vice President of Business Strategy and Creative Development for the Pittsburg Steelers.

Susan McGalla has spoken to many audiences about how a woman can get ahead in the business place. She is glad to see the change in people as more women are able to focus on being seen as professionals and not targeted as women. She understands that having confidence working with both genders is instrumental to her success and she shares that.

Women’s initiatives and networks seek to help people network together and support each other. It is not enough to cause the change, but they can help women to stand out. Executive sponsorship can help bring about that change by helping women create opportunities, and being an advocate for them in the workplace. And statistics show that companies that are more gender diverse are 15% more often to excel past other companies. So the company would likely benefit from helping more women to excel in the workplace.
