Starting in 1984, Stephen Murray has spent most of his professional life as a private equity expert. It all began when he joined Manufacturers Hanover Corporation. Stephen Murray became part of its training program for credit analysts. Subsequently, Stephen Murray joined MH Equity Corporation in 1989.
That is after it merged its leveraged finance unit with the private equity group of Manufacturers Hanover. In 1991, Chemical Bank acquired Manufacturers Hanover resulting in a merger between MH Equity Corporation and Chemical Venture Partners. In 1996, Chase Capital Partners was created when Chase Bank combined with Chase Corporation.
Stephen Murray was appointed as the leader of JP Morgan Partners’ buyout business. He co-established CCMP Capital, a JPMorgan Chase spinout in 2006. It had the buyout alongside the growth equity team of JP Morgan Chase’s private equity group. A year after co-founding CCMP, Stephen Murray was named chief executive officer of the company. He has served as the head of the firm for many years.
