Chainsmokers are musicians with multiple hit releases, from “Don’t Let Me Down” to” Roses” in 2016 and 2017 respectively. The band usually centres on Trap, Pop Dance and electronic music but this time they have upped their game by featuring Halsey in their new track titled “Closer.” The track is among other records in the album titled “Collage” also features Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall who is considered one half of the duo.

Alex Pall is however not just “a half duo” in the group, for he is more than just a DJ sitting behind the booth. Unlike most electronic and dance music groups and songs, Alex brings in his personality into the music through beats which are captivating to the audience. Alex Pall’s ability to incorporate other different styles of musicians like the 20-year-old songwriter, Ashley Frangipane, better known as Halsey is incredible.

Pall’s ability to grow beyond the backstage as a DJ and work with Taggart in bringing a euphoric feeling to their performances has been commendable surpassing the likes of deadmau5. According to an interview conducted by Mathias Rosenzweig, Pall stated that dance music and DJing has always been his passion. He used to DJ around New York City but grew more prominent when he started working with their current manager who later introduced him to Andrew.

Alex Pall added that their music-related friendship kicked off soon after meeting as they regularly discussed music trends and their passions. Finding their identity in music was their core objective. He also mentions that both their talents, Andrew being a producer and singer, while he as a socially connected DJ in the city made things lighter. They also spent plenty of time together, “It was like, 9 AM to 7 PM…” Pall said. Stating how they covered lots of ground, developing, bettering their skills and learning core values in music.

For both of them, music is more than just a job; but a deeper level of discovery and relating to their audience. Pall gives an example of how before releasing the album, they would discuss, not as a blueprint but how they both feel the music relates to them and the audience. The album containing their music, “Closer” got nominated for Grammy Awards for Best Group Performance/Best Pop Duo confirming Alex Pall’s contribution to the group.
